Think it’s time we start messing with Texas about their xenophobia.
Texans Display Racism Over Use Of Arabic Term Haboob For Dust Storm
Earlier this week a haboob — the meteorological term for a sand/dust storm (which is of Arabic origin) swept across the panhandle of Texas, making for some great photographs as well as some pretty nasty displays of racism from Texas residents over use of the term. KCBD-TV out of Lubbock posted a picture of the haboob to their Facebook page along with the caption:
Haboob northwest of Lubbock as seen from the Science Spectrum. If you must drive west of Lubbock, plan for near-zero visibility in blowing dust and strong winds of 50+ mph.
Pretty innocent caption. The reaction not so much.
SMH.
More photos and fallout on the flipside.
