Man With History Of Domestic Abuse Died Trying To Burn Down Ex-Girlfriend’s Apartment

A man who could have killed an ENTIRE building full of people is dead after burning up in a car that he was driving FULL of propane tanks… into his ex-girlfriend’s crib.

Yep. This story comes direct from the good ol’ Sunshine State of FLAW-DA…

According to TC Palm 31=year-old Carl Philbert died in the incident which happened around 12:45 pm. Fortunately, no one else was injured.

A spokesperson for the Fort Pierce Police Department, Ed Cunningham, says Philbert was an immigrant from Haiti who has been staying in area hotels.

According to police reports, Philbert drove a white four-door sedan through the front windows of the ground-floor apartment in the 400 block of Palm Avenue where his ex-girlfriend was living with her family. Philbert had a history of domestic violence with the woman, according to police.

“My mother was cooking,” 26-year-old Eileen Cuevas said, referring to her mom, who is Philbert’s ex. “She saw him like coming full force at our living room, and she was trying to warn us as we were sitting on the couch, but it was too late and he had already come in and hit the window,” Cuevas said. “And he drove through our living room.”

“As soon as he came in through the window, I just jumped up and grabbed my son, ran out the back door with him,” Cuevas said. “I got my mother and my grandmother and everyone out of the house.”

By that point, the car and apartment were on fire.

“I just wanted people to help him because I saw his body burning,” Cuevas said. “You never want to see a thing like that. I saw his body, everything on fire.”

Cuevas said she didn’t know what had made him so angry.

“It’s very personal,” Cuevas said. “It’s still weird talking about it. He was trying to get to my mom. It was meant for everybody that was in the house. I mean, the man had four or five propane tanks in the car. They were friends and it turned out really bad. This is very personal for our family, so it’s kind of touchy.”

Crazy right? Can you even imagine? An elderly woman had to be rescued from the apartment above the one that was crashed into and the fire damaged all the units in the building, displacing 13 adults and five children.

Police say Philbert and his ex had an argument earlier in the day when he came to the apartment and saw something he disliked.

“He intended to do damage. He raced his car into this apartment where five people were, intending to kill them, blow the place up, or create some kind of havoc,” Fort Pierce police spokesman Ed Cunningham told WPTV

What do you think set him off like that? He had FOUR propane tanks in the car — one in the front and three in the back. And we weren’t gonna say anything BUT, the woman’s daughter is 26 and her ex is 31?
