One In Six Newlyweds Are Married To Someone Of A Different Race Or Ethnicity

This shouldn't come as a surprise to most of y'all but swirl marriage is WAY WAY up from 1967, when the Supreme Court ruled in the Loving v. Virginia decision that interracial marriages were legal. According to a Pew Research Center analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data which was released Thursday, one in six newlyweds are married to someone of a different race or ethnicity. As you would probably imagine is the case, intermarriage is more common in metropolitan areas than rural areas. While we normally think of interracial marriage as primarily a black and white thing, the analysis actually shows that the most common intermarriage is between Hispanic and white people, while the second most common match is white and Asian. Do you think you can guess which city has the highest rates of interracial marriage? Hit the flip for the answer.
