Sheriff Denies Racism In Spring Valley Arrest Because Cop Dates Black Woman
The video of a female student at Spring Valley High School being physically accosted by police officer Ben Fields has lit a white hot flame in the social conscious of black folks over the past 24 hours. A South Carolina sheriff says he doesn’t think that race played a role in his officer’s arrest of a female high school student.
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said Tuesday that the deputy that made the arrest, Ben Fields, has been dating an African-American woman for “quite some time.” He says that if that had any bearing on the arrest, it would have been in a positive way, not a negative one.
“He couldn’t POSSIBLY be a racist! He’s having sex with a black woman!”
